Capelli we are focused on bringing all of our guests the best possible product. This is why we chose REAL human hair. The hair used in our applications is 100% cuticle intact, chemical free hair with a custom color just for you! With human hair extensions you are able to use heat, style, wash, color, honestly anything you want to do with your own hair you can do with these extensions!

Are There Different Lengths, Colors, or Styles?

The answer, YES! We offer 20 different colors! That’s right 20! We have as dark of hair as you could want AND as light of hair you can imagine! There are also 3 different lengths available! So whether you want to add 2 inches of hair or 10 inches of hair, we have the solution for you! The beautiful thing about all of these options is that we are able to volumize the hair as well. Extensions are not just for length, they can also be used to add volume! Adding volume can be done in just FIVE MINUTES! Full length applications can be done in just ONE HOUR!

Will They Damage My Hair?

Our top priority is maintaining your natural hair. Tape-in extensions are made up of “Nano Panels” this means the tape used is Ultra thin while being the most durable panel on the market. Keeping the weight low reduces the risk of putting too much tension on your hair. Our extensions are damage free and undetectable when applied correctly. Hand-tied extensions are beaded and then sewn into the hair. This method prevents tension and keeps your look natural and comfortable! What are Eyelash Extensions?

I am glad you asked! Eyelash extensions are semi-permanent lashes that are hand-glued on top of your natural lashes. Lash extensions are great for adding length or volume or even both! There are many styles of lashes these days. Extensions can be anywhere from a classic look to a hybrid to volume and to even mega volume.

Difference between styles of extensions:

Classic

This application involves applying one individual lash extension to each of your existing lashes.

Volume

This application involves applying multiple lash extensions to each lash.

Hybrid

This application is a combination of classic and volume.

Mega

This application is the volume technique applied to every single available natural lash.

Maintenance

You got it! If lash extensions are in your future, they do require maintenance. To keep your eyelash extensions looking full, we recommend regular touch-ups and fills. There is no way to prevent your lashes from falling out as this is a very natural process but regular maintenance will keep them looking beautiful! These follow-up appointments can vary from two weeks to three weeks appointments. In the meantime, we ask that you avoid oil-based products, and waterproof mascara, and use gentle face wash to keep the lashes clean.

How to Prepare for your Lash Appointment

Do your research to find the look you’re going for.
Plan to spend two to three hours at your first initial appointment.
Let your lash specialist know if you have sensitivities.
Come with a clean face and no makeup.

Some people choose to do lash extensions for special occasions only and that is fine too!

What’s Buggin’ Ya?!

What is Lice?

Head lice are tiny insects that attach themselves to the hair strand. Although they consume the blood from the scalp, they do not attach themselves to the scalp. Lice has three life stages. Stage one they are eggs, after six to nine days they will hatch and move on to the next stage of life. After they hatch they become Nymphs, during this cycle they are immature forms of the louse, and after 9-12 days they will mature. During their final life stage they are Adult Lice, the average life span of adults is three to four weeks. While adults the females will produce a sticky substance that attaches 6-10 eggs a day to the hair strand. Throughout the entire life cycle lice remain wingless. With this being said, lice only spread through direct contact, they do not fly or jump, only crawl. Having lice is not a sign of poor hygiene or an unclean living environment. While a majority of cases affect mostly children, preschool through elementary, it is important to note that lice do not carry bacterial or viral diseases. While they do not carry diseases it is important to treat lice right away!

Symptoms

Spotting the symptoms and then treating these cases can be very simple, first let’s start out by getting to know the symptoms. Lice are very small insects, they are about the size of a strawberry or sesame seed. The color can range, since they adapt to their surroundings, oftentimes they are tan-gray, red-brown, or black. Even though the color can range, they are consistently a teardrop shape. It may be easy to spot these creatures, but they are often mistaken as dandruff, product residue, dead hair tissue, dirt and debris, or other small insects. The most common symptom for lice is itching, this means your body is having an allergic reaction to the louse bites. If you have never had lice before the itching may not occur for 4-6 weeks. While the most common symptom is itching, some cases will have sores on the scalp, neck, and shoulders. Treating lice can be very simple, your very first step should be going to the doctor. Before you start any type of treatment on your child or self. From there follow your provider’s instructions on how to proceed. If you decide to go with an over the counter method, you will want to rid the scalp of lice and eggs. For this you will need a nit comb, you can find these at all MJ Capelli locations. Along these nit combs we have other products that will help repel and treat these insects.

Prevention

It is difficult to prevent yourself from getting lice, but you can take steps to protect yourself against lice. The most important thing you can do is not share personal items such as: hats, combs, brushes, hair accessories, headphones, pillows, and towels. Even if you are not sharing these items it is very important that you keep these items clean. If you know someone that currently has lice avoid direct contact. Lice spreads by crawling, so they will not jump from head to head. While lice is very contagious most schools will allow children with lice to remain in class. With all of this being said if you, your child, or anyone you know has lice always make sure to see a doctor and take the proper steps when treating lice.

The morning after dreaming

There is no need to wash the Dream Routine Treatment out in the morning! Steps To Creating The Bouncy Blowout

Step 1:

Gently comb and detangle your freshly washed hair. If you want the best results, spray your hair with a leave-in conditioner and work your way up as you detangle. One of our favorites is Matrix Miracle Creator leave-in! Using this product will help you detangle while conditioning your hair and priming for your style while also smoothing the cuticle to prevent breakage from brushing.

Step 2:

Spray in a blowout primer, and rough blow dry or air dry your hair 80% of the way.This product lays down an excellent foundation for your style to last all day and be protected from heat damage.

Step 3:

Keep your sections small and clean! Take your Amika Blow Dry Brush 2.0, start from your root and work thoroughly down the hair. Keep it elevated above your head with tension. As you work your way down, start turning your blow dryer towards the face to create a curl effect. After the section is dry, place velcro rollers at the end of the strand and roll up towards your root. Lastly, secure with crease-less clip and allow to fully cool.

Step 4:

Spray a light finishing spray while still in the rollers to keep them in the form! Once they have sat and cooled for a while, take them out carefully and run your fingers or a wide-tooth comb through the curls. We like to use a dry texture spray when finished to help hold the volume throughout the day.

What Services Do You Offer?

We offer both makeup and formal hairstyles for the bridal party! We can style your hair as you like, whether you want a full updo or a simple half-up style. We also offer makeup services that are super customizable to each bridal party member. We can do a full glam look or keep it natural and straightforward; it is all up to you!

We know it can be hard to choose a style. Feel free to bring in a few pictures of styles that you like, and our stylists can help direct you towards something that suits your hair type and your dress!

We recommend staying true to your style. This way you will feel more comfortable the whole day! For example, if you tend to keep your makeup simple and natural daily, we can elevate your look while still staying true to your style! We can even apply false lashes to spice up your look!

35 Years With M.J. Capelli

Our Lead Manager, Em at Maxx, completely embodies M.J. Capelli and everything we stand for. We believe in helping our customers achieve all of their hair dreams and more. We do that by having a dedicated and innovative staff. Em embodies what it means to be an M.J. Capelli stylist with a successful career at our salon. Learn more about Em and how M.J. Capelli has been a second home to her over the last 35 years.

Where It All Started For Em

Em grew up in Minot, ND, and attended Josef’s School of Hair Design right out of high school. After graduating from beauty school, she moved to Fargo with her family. Em was hired at what was then called Trim 7, which eventually grew into the salon you love and know, M.J. Capelli.

Em started as a stylist, moved into a supervisor position, and then assistant manager. She was then promoted to a manager of the South salon around 1995. After managing our South location, she was transferred to the West salon (currently M.J. Capelli on 33rd) and moved again in 2010 to the Maxx location, where she currently resides today. Recently, she accepted the position of Lead Manager for the M.J. Capelli company. Em stated, “To me, this means that I am a good helper to all my other manager friends in any way, shape, or form.”

Becoming A Hairstylist

Em knew this career path was for her because of her creativity and love for people! When she was about 16 years old, she knew that someday she would go to school to be a hairstylist. Em stated, “I can remember sitting at family functions, at a very young age, brushing my cousin’s long blonde hair for hours. Then in high school, I would always be the one to cut and perm my friend’s hair. I guess you could say I caught the bug early!” So you can say Em knew from an early age what her career path would be!

M.J. Capelli Shapes Careers

Em is who she is today because of M.J. Capelli. She grew up here. Em had this to say about her career at M.J. ‘s, “I never, in my dreams, would have thought that I could lead a team of stylists or that I could make an impact in someone’s life. I have had the opportunity to grow as a stylist, as a manager, as a person.” The company is very supportive of all who work here. The support and opportunities given are endless.

The Rewards Are Endless

There is nothing like the feeling you get when you make a difference in someone’s life. It is the most rewarding thing ever! Building and maintaining relationships with clients is amazing. Em says, “I have a handful of clients I have done their hair for more than 30 years. They start as clients but become friends, and then they become family! They are the reason I got into this business!! From a manager standpoint, the most rewarding part of my job is teaching, coaching, and celebrating my staffs’ accomplishments. My goal is to help my staff accomplish their goals. I care deeply for every person that works for me and want the absolute best for them.”

Em’s Advice for Aspiring Stylists

Just go for it!! This job isn’t just making someone look good. It is much more. For instance, a stylist is often there for clients during break-ups, deaths, graduation, having babies, etc. This job can create some of the best relationships and be the most rewarding job ever. Em’s advice is this, “Don’t give up! Building a clientele is hard work, but you can do it with determination and good coaching. In this business, you get what you give. Do good work and be yourself. Build relationships. Keep that smile on your face. Listen to your client’s needs.”
